چکیده

The finite temperature Casimir free energy is calculated for a dielec-tric ball of radius a embedded in an infinite medium. The condition ǫµ = 1 is assumed for the inside/outside regions. Both the Green function method and the mode summation method are considered, and found to be equivalent. For a dilute medium we find, assuming a simple " square " dispersion relation with an abrupt cutoff at imaginary frequencyˆω = ω0, the high temperature Casimir free energy to be negative and proportional to x0 ≡ ω0a. Also, a physically more realistic dispersion relation involving spatial dispersion is considered, and is shown to lead to comparable results.

Casimir energy of a dilute dielectric ball with uniform velocity of light at finite temperature

Calculations of the Casimir energy for spherically symmetric boundary conditions have been the issue of numerous papers, since the first calculation by Boyer [1] (see also [2, 3, 4, 5, 6]). Although a general theory describing the fluctuations of the electromagnetic field at finite temperature has been present for a long time [7, 8, 9, 10, 11], the extension of the results for the dielectric ba...

We study the finite size corrections for the magnetization and the internal energy of the 2d Ising model in a magnetic field by using transfer matrix techniques. We compare these corrections with the functional form recently proposed by Delfino and LeClair-Mussardo for the finite temperature behaviour of one-point functions in inte-grable 2d quantum field theories. We find a perfect agreement b...

un 2 00 1 Casimir energy and realistic model of dilute dielectric ball

The Casimir energy of a dilute homogeneous nonmagnetic dielectric ball at zero temperature is derived analytically for the first time for an arbitrary physically possible frequency dispersion of dielectric permittivity ε(iω). A microscopic model of dielectrics is considered, divergences are absent in calculations because an average interatomic distance λ is a physical cut-off in the theory. Thi...

Arnold’s diffusion in quasi integrable hamiltonian systems H(q, p) = H0(p)+μh(q, p) occurs in exponentially large time. We study an initially hyperbolic system which admits diffusion in polynomial time. Abridged english version In spite of KAM theorem, quasi integrable hamiltonian systems need not be stable. In [1], V.I. Arnold has pointed out an unstable behavior for systems with more than thr...
